Tassos Halikias
Born
on the Ionian island of Lefkas, Greece, in 1955.
He
obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering in London, where he lived and
studied from 1973 until 1979
He
returned to Athens, Greece, where he studied photography and later established
his own studio.
In 1985 he moved to Crete, where he worked
exclusively for the Museum of Cretan Ethnology Foundation in Vori (1985-2000).
At he same time, he
started painting and became especially fascinated by Byzantine hagiography.
His icons follow the
tradition of the Cretan School of Hagiography.
He recently left his
position at the MCEF to devote himself to painting.
From
October until December 2000, he had his first personal exhibition at the
Droseriko Gallery in Patras, Greece, where a series of female portraits were
shown (dry pastel on carton, in the Byzantine layered technique).
He is married to Swiss-born stage actress and jazz singer Eva
Kesselring.
This
is his first exhibition outside of Greece, showing exclusively icons (egg
tempera on wood with gold leaf).
