Lydia Mugambi
Lydia was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1939, she graduated with a
certificate in Fine Art at Makerere and London Universities. She is now a
competent sculptor, painter and graphic artist.
Her strength lies in ink sketching of moving figures. In her oil paintings
she shows a strong sensitivity for space and perspectives; for example she
depicts the bright colours of African landscapes and the same time leaves a
possibility for the viewer's desire to go into the painters subject.
Her profession allows her as a teacher in traditional art and crafts at
Makerere University (she is familiar with the use of natural pigments and
materials), to contribute significantly to the Ugandan craft market.
